This
was one of my favorite radios! These radios have amazing receive and are
awesome on AM and even more so on SSB!
These radios have the variable power and with the Top Gun Feature will
swing to the max output from 1 watt. Max output I ever saw on this radio
was 35 watts. Some people say they can be setup to do 40, but I think most
people can expect a solid 35 watts.
Audio is unbelievable and loud but never distorted. Even with the echo on
the audio is clean - only time the audio ever got crunchy is with the
repeating echo - after 10-15 repeats it will start to get a little
distorted.
The best feature I liked was the memory buttons - all mode - you can push
on button and go from Ch 6 AM to CH 38 LSB. Very easy to jump around your
favorite stations.
Radio will drive the snot out of a solid 2 pill amplifier like a
Magnaforce 200 or 350.
It's very easy to peak the modulation - adjusting the variable power
internally can be a bit of a pain because the boards aren't marked and
there is very little documentation available about how to do it.
Excellent all around radio. ONLY complaint - the knobs are cheesy and have
a loose feel. The knobs never gave me any problems but the "feel" isn't as
solid as a Cobra 148 for example.
