Rumors have been flying for months regarding the new Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB 40 Channel CB radio and while we knew the radio was in development and a working model was being tested the radio has now had a chance to visit the Office of Engineering and Technology at the FCC for type acceptance.

I haven't heard when the radio will be hitting shelves but you can be sure it's on it's way. We've included some pictures from the FCC files which show the layout of the controls as well as the LCD display similar to the 880 model. This is what the final version of the radio should look like when you see it in a store near you.

Based on what we can see and what we know of the Uniden 880 (AM ONLY MODEL) we can expect this radio will have the diagnostics menu (SWR, Voltage check) and the multiple color display, weather channels, and talkback along with all the other standard functions.

The back of the radio looks fairly standard, antenna jack, 3 pin power cord, Ext speaker and PA jacks.

Inside the radio you can see the surface mount technology for this one.I'm seeing lots of variable pots in there so hopefully you will still be able to easily set your AM carrier, turn up your modulation, etc. The radio looks fairly compact so I'm guessing it may be smaller that current SSB CB radios.
